2012 Bezos Scholar Kayna Lantz and educator Justine Lines worked with student leaders to promote environmentalism in Springfield, MO with their Local Ideas Festival, LEAF: Leaders in Environmental Action for the Future.
After attending the Aspen Ideas Festival sessions on population growth, global natural resource depletion, and related global environmental, Kayna was inspired to focus her Local Ideas Festival on environmental student leadership.
LEAF: Leaders in Environmental Action for the Future, featuring a workshop for high school students on leadership and environmentalism. Throughout the day of hands-on learning and leadership training, students brainstormed ideas to help them form sustainable solutions for their community. After the workshop, high school students created sustainability projects at their schools. LEAF: Leaders in Environmental Action for the Future, culminated with a presentation of the individual projects and celebration of Earth Day.
