2016 Bezos Scholar Peter Yang and his educator, Dan Maloney, promoted post-high school educational pursuits at James Madison High School for students in Madison, WI through their Local Ideas Festival, the Madison College Access Festival.
Peter and Dan provided greater college access for students at James Madison Memorial High School. In 2016, only 52% of seniors at their high school went on to a 2-year or a 4-year college. Through their community change project, the duo focused on seniors who were accepted to college but due to a variety of factors might not actually attend. Their festival partenred with local colleges and career centers to inform high school seniors and the community about key college access issues.
