2012 Bezos Scholar Christopher Sabbagh and educator Naomi Brown used their Local Ideas Festival to promote civic engagement by raising voter awareness.
The Power of ONE festival in Sugar Land, TX was designed to highlight the importance of every single vote and explored the ideas of democracy and the power of community engagement. Chris worked with his community and school district to host a festival that featured a voter registration booth and meet-and-greet with local politicians and members of local voter’s leagues.
“The main parts of the festival,” shared Chris. “Were of course, voter registration and the second is issue awareness.”
Through his efforts, The Power of ONE festival registered more than 600 voters and brought awareness of local and state issues to his community.
