As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, for the first time in our 15-year history we have made the difficult decision to cancel this year's Bezos Scholars Program. With the cancelation of the Aspen Ideas Festival and time that students, families, schools and districts will need to adjust and plan for the remainder of the school year, we did not feel like we could safely or fairly engage a cohort or student-led community change projects for the 2020-21 academic year.
We recognize and honor the time, energy and perseverance applicants took to complete the 2020 Bezos Scholars application. Our team is grateful for every high school student who applied and to their support network—their family and friends, and each principal, educator nominee, and person who wrote a recommendation on their behalf.
In 2020, the Bezos Scholars team is dedicating time and energy to strengthening the alumni network, refining the community change project Grant Proposal Process, and determining ways to engage the BSP community in responding to needs that arise as we all navigate what this next year will bring.
We’re maintaining hope, finding optimism where we can, and keeping safety and health as our number one priority. We are planning to come back stronger than ever with a 2021 cohort and will be in touch throughout the year with updates.
