Scholar Spotlight: 2005 Scholar Ann Stalcup

What are you up to right now?
I am currently in the third year of my doctoral program in Counseling Psychology at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas. I am also a practical student providing counseling services at the University of Texas in San Antonio and am conducting a pilot treatment study where I am combining Neurofeedback training and trauma focused psychological services at InMindOut Emotional Wellness Center.

What projects and new ideas are exciting you personally / academically / career wise?
I am looking forward to presenting my results on the trauma focused pilot treatment program at the Association for Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback, Inc. (AAPB).

Have you been keeping in touch with your Bezos Scholar alum, and if so — how?
I have kept in touch with some of the alum via text and Facebook. I intend to attend regional events where I can meet more alum.

Which influential books, albums, podcasts, or films would you personally recommend to the BSP community of curious minds?
I recently watched American Son on Netflix. It was thought provoking because I have biracial children growing up in the current sociopolitical environment in the United States. It made me think about the responsibilities I have by being a parent of biracial children in the United States.

Who or what are you finding inspiration in right now?
I find motivation and inspiration from every client/patient who I work with. I feel privileged when people open their cores and allow me to share the spaces that hold the hardest conversations of their lives. I am most charged and inspired by one of my clients who said they are deserving of unconditional love.

Anything else you want to share with the BSP community?
Stay focused on your path and what you believe in. Be culturally responsive. Be brave.
