Student Wellness Committee

Student Wellness Committee

Project Theme: Mental Health and Wellness, Sense of Belonging

Years in Existence: 5

Target Audience and Location: 9-12th graders at Hightower High School in Missouri City, Texas.

Mission: Provide resources to help students create a healthy lifestyle that includes physical, mental, and nutritional wellness, as well as being well-rounded leaders in our community.

Project Description: Founding Scholars Isabel Ohakamma and Dr. John Ramon created the Student Wellness Coalition to address mental health challenges that surfaced in and outside of the classroom. To do so, they organized activities focused on self-care, mental health, and stress-relief techniques. This year, the team is promoting student well-being through a series of events, including a Multicultural Fest, lunchtime wellness activities such as cookie decorating and bracelet making, and campus beautification efforts. With upcoming initiatives like a Spring Wellness Sports Day and an end-of-year celebration, they are creating consistent opportunities for students to connect, reduce stress, and build a stronger sense of community.
