2011 Bezos Scholar Nikki Santiago and educator Steve Magadance worked to educate their community about the need for cultural diversity through their Local Ideas Festival, Community PEACE Festival.

Community PEACE Festival was a week-long event that promoted volunteerism, cultural awareness, and the role of language in culture. The festival featured a film on deaf culture and the deaf community, lunch and games of lotería, Peace Corps volunteer Skype chats, and a poetry slam. Community PEACE Festival showcased student cultural groups represented in the San Antonio community.
